He's growing up

I don't really know when most babies roll over, but mine did at 7 weeks. He has been rolling up onto his side for weeks now, but everyone kept saying that it takes quite a bit of effort for him to make it over that last bit from his side onto his belly. Well, Heidi and I were watching him on Monday, and he was up on his side, we were talking about when he would probably roll over, and we were saying it would probably be a month or more, and then, as we were watching... over he went. That has probably been the most exciting moment of his life... for me at least.

This morning he was playing on the play mat thingy that Dean bought for him and was so excited for him to use. The last time that we put him on that, he wasn't old enough to even look at it or enjoy it in the least. But this morning I put him on it, and he was making all kinds of cooing noises, and kicking his arms and legs excitedly. Then he accidentally bumped one of the toys hanging from it, and he got really wide eyes and acted even more excited, and then he did it again. I didn't know that such young babies could show so much reaction, it is really exciting to see.

His tummy time is fun to watch too. He seems to enjoy it, for short periods of time at least. In the last couple of days he has started pushing himself up on his arms, getting his head way up high. He also pushes up on his knees so that he gets much of his torso off the ground, his chest still down. It is so much fun to see so much progress.

MaeLyn's Christmas present to me was a book entitled "Secrets of the Baby Whisperer." It has been very enlightening and extremely helpful. It has largely saved me from long periods of screaming in which I don't know what's going on. Granted, there are a lot of things that the book does not address that I wish it did, and there are a few if her opinions that I don't necessarily agree with, but otherwise I have enjoyed it greatly, and both I and my baby have been happier since I read it. So, Thanks MaeLyn!
