New house, new dog, new life!
Life has been crazy busy these past couple of weeks! We moved into a new house, and we got a dog! I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with everything that I have to be doing right now. Owen (the dog) needs constant supervision, or he likes to grab the kids' toys and socks and run off with them. He also has to be watched so he doesn't have an accident in the house. We've had him just over a week, and he's getting better at house-training, but as he gets to be more comfortable here, he is taking more liberties with stealing and chewing up our stuff. I'm trying to get the kids to put away their stuff, and keep their bedroom doors shut, but it is so hard! I'm just as bad. Dean's socks seem to be his favorite. He also barks and whines SO MUCH! He wants us to play with him! He's a puppy, he just wants to play. I'm assuming that's why he keeps stealing our stuff, because we chase him and play tug of war, and he seems to like that. Dean is gone for a training course in Arizona. He left a couple of days ago, and will be gone for the entire month. Meanwhile I'm trying to put this house together. We moved last week, but it was a very slow move. It took me all week to pack up and move things across to our new house, and then clean out the old place. And now that we're out of the rental and ready to unpack and get things organized here, Dean is gone, and I'm left on my own with four kids and a needy dog. The last day of school was last week, so the kids are home all the time, which in some ways is good, because the big boys can help keep the dog entertained, but it also means that they're here making more messes. I can barely keep up with the normal day to day messes, let alone getting boxes unpacked. Instead of unpacking boxes and finding homes for everything, stuff is just getting spilled and stacked and put in piles. That's partly why Owen keep having such easy access to things he shouldn't have. I'm also taking a class, so there are readings and assignments that I have gotten behind on. I'm really not sure how this is all going to play out. A big part of me just wants to drop my class and sell the dog. I could spend this summer putting my house in order and spending time with my kids. I had so many plans with them this summer, but none of it is happening right now.
That's okay. Owen is a lot of fun, and for whatever reason, he has decided that I'm his favorite person, and he will only listen to me... sometimes. I love our new house. It needs a lot of work, but the lot is huge, as is the unfinished basement, and it has so much potential! I love taking my kids (and my dog) for walks along the dirt road to go see pigs, goats, horses, cows, etc. It's a whole different way of life than we used to have, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. We'll see how this goes!
