Happy Birthday to DJ! -From start to finish-

The day started out... well, it started... both kids woke up with drenched diapers and wet beds. So they both spent most of the morning in just a diaper. Dean made chocolate chip blueberry muffins for breakfast, which DJ liked a lot while I washed bedding. Unfortunately bedding included a beloved Winnie the Pooh stuffed animal, and DJ did NOT want me to put it in the washing machine. Partially to distract him from his Pooh, and partially because they both really needed one, kids got a much needed bath. Dean charged up his RC helicopter, so after baths he flew his helicopter much to the delight of DJ. While they played, I made a cake in a Winnie the Pooh cake pan that was surprisingly difficult to find. Following helicopter flying, an episode of Blues clues, and general playing around... and a nap for Andrew, we went out to lunch at Arctic Circle. DJ loves that restaurant because of the cool playground inside... we wanted to go to the park, but it was too cold. for DJ we got a kids meal complete with toy. The toy he got was a bouncy ball with Bob the tomato inside. DJ, being a huge Veggietales fan was thrilled. After lunch just to kill some time we went to Deseret book store. We decided that at two years old it was beyond time for us to be reading scriptures with Deano, so to help facilitate that, we got a couple of Book of Mormon picture books. By the time we were done with that, both kids were tired and ready for a nap. Gratefully DJ was tired enough that he didn't even notice that he didn't have his Pooh Bear. During nap we painstakingly decorated the cake, cleaned up the house, and hung a birthday banner in eager anticipation of the party to come that evening. When DJ woke up he watched some Veggietales, while we continued getting the house ready for company. While working on that we got a phone call from Aunt Donna saying that they wouldn't be able to come like they had planned, because they had to take David to the hospital because his blood pressure had skyrocketed. I have not heard any news on his condition since then. Heidi had an Ultimate Frisbee game that evening, so she wouldn't be able to come, and the other couple of people we had tried to invite weren't able to make it either... so it was just us. Dean was a little disappointed, but it was fine. We made chicken fettuccine Alfredo for dinner. That is one of the only meals that DJ really likes and will eat without complaint. He wouldn't eat the broccoli that we had with it, but I was just happy that he ate the pasta. After dinner we pulled the presents out of the basement and he had lots of fun opening those. He got bubbles, Winnie the pooh character figurine toy thingies, bath toys (we had to throw his old ones away because they were mildewing inside, these ones you can open up and clean out,) a giant Winnie the Pooh coloring book and a big dump truck. DJ had lots of fun piling all of his new toys in the truck and pushing it around. We dragged him away from his toys and back to the table which upset him a great deal, until we unveiled his Winnie the Pooh cake. He saw it before we frosted it, but he hadn't seen the finished product until now. We had to light the candles a couple of times because he kept blowing them out before we finished. The cake tasted alright, DJ liked the ice cream better though. We gave Andrew some cake... but we probably shouldn't have since it has egg in it, but we did anyways. All day today he has been having some bad diarrhea, so I'm hoping it wasn't caused by the cake. DJ lost interest in the cake pretty quickly, and so we blew some bubbles while we waited for Andrew to finish his cake. Andrew needed a bath after that cake, and we just can't give Andrew a bath without also giving DJ a bath, plus it gave him a chance to play with his new bath toys. So they got baths, and while in the tub, Heidi and a friend came over. Andrew and DJ were both excited to see them, and it gave DJ an extra excuse to run around all crazy. We blew up some balloons and let them play with them, DJ had a blast doing that, but then it was bed time. After such an exciting day, DJ just did not want to go to bed, and it was a challenge getting him to go to sleep. Even though he had his clean Pooh Bear back by then, it didn't help. Andrew on the other hand was exhausted and went down very easily.

...probably more information than you wanted... sorry :) For pictures of just about everything I talked about in there, please see facebook... I took a lot of pictures...
