Playing the Waiting Game
I am now 37 weeks pregnant, and getting extremely large and very
uncomfortable. I am way bigger than I was when I was pregnant with DJ,
and I've been having a lot more contractions and other things that are
just obnoxious. I'm ready to be done with this pregnancy, even though
the thought of having two children terrifies me slightly. I don't think I
am ready to have two. DJ is still so much a baby still, how can I
possibly handle a newborn too? Sixteen months old seemed a lot older
nine months ago.
Gratefully though he's not nearly as clingy as he used to be. He has gained a streak of independence, which allows me to get some things done while he is awake, so I don't have to save all of the housework for his naptimes anymore, which is really good because he is almost down to one nap a day. He loves to help me do the dishes and the laundry, although he gets in the way more than he helps, but it's still fun. He has started helping me clean up the toys in his room, and he loves to throw away his dirty diapers, and take any trash he can find to the trashcan.
He is very opinionated these days which is often very difficult because I can't figure out just what it is he wants. He is talking a bit here and there, but I still don't know what he wants. His favorite words to say are Daddy, uhoh, no, nose (doh), food (doo), doggy (doddy), and hi (which often means phone). He will also say from time to time Mama, banana, sock, duck, down, cracker, bath, go, thank you, monkey, bye, and a ton of other sounds that may or may not be words, (it's really hard to tell sometimes). It's exciting that he is starting to voice his wants, but it's frustrating when I guess wrong and he throws a fit, or when I do understand I have to tell him no. He will often take me by the hand and drag me to whatever it is that he wants, usually into the kitchen for a snack.
He seems to want to eat constantly, but he'll rarely eat what I give him at mealtime. I've been trying not to let him snack between meals or scheduled snack times, but it makes him so mad when I won't give him something, so I usually cave and give him a cracker. It doesn't help that the crackers are sitting right up on the counter where he can see them. I wish I had more cupboard space!
Which brings me to the other thing we're waiting for: our house! I was hoping that they would have word to us by now that we can move in within the next week or two. The owner of the house is currently in Germany, and they're having a hard time getting paperwork between him and the insurance companies that are supposedly taking care of repairs. So we're still waiting just to find out when we can move in. We have their promise that we can be in by the first of April, but I was really hoping that we could move before Andrew was born.
And now I'm starting to hope that Andrew is born early because I don't think I can stand this for another three weeks. Pregnancy really is not much fun at all! He's dropped down so his head is pushed up against my pelvis and it makes it really hard to walk. I feel like I'm waddling everywhere I go. At night I have to wake up about a million times to either use the bathroom, or to perform the tedious task of rolling over. I never thought it would be so hard to just turn from one side to the other.
