Hamburger Smoothies

So... a very long time ago I had a dream about hamburger smoothies. I dreamed that I was running a smoothie shop and I was making all sorts of weird flavored smoothies. Well, the last week or so, that dream is in part coming true. Tonight I made a hamburger smoothie, a couple of days ago I made a taco salad smoothie, I've made a shepherd's pie smoothie, and lots of others. What is the purpose of these? To feed to DJ. He still doesn't have any teeth, but he loves food. So every time that we have a meal that has a lot of ingredients that he is allowed to have I just throw it in our food processor, or baby food grinder and presto, he eats just what we eat. He seems to like it better than the old plain mixes I used to give him, and it's easier on me because I don't have to prepare anything special for him anymore. Although usually I'll still mix in some squash or carrots or some other vegetable to whatever I'm giving him.

It is so exciting watching him growing up so fast. He crawls now. Well, not quite. It's an army crawl, but he moves fast and can go just about everywhere now. And he does. He always seems to find the things that I don't want him to have. I clean my house, but there always seems to be a little bit of paper, or a random bit of plastic lying on the ground hidden somewhere that he finds and eats. He loves to walk too. He will hold onto my hands and he will walk wherever he wants to go. Frequently he'll be crawling somewhere and decides that he wants to walk so he'll reach out his arms towards me. I'll take hold of his hands and he'll pull himself up and start walking. He always seems to want to walk towards the kitchen. He doesn't usually crawl that far, I guess he decides it's too far a trip to make on his belly.

He loves experimenting with sounds. His favorite things to do lately are scrunching his nose up and sniffing in and out really hard, and puckering up his lips and blowing through them. We've been trying to get him to say mama or dada or something else like that, but so far he likes to stick with B sounds and G sounds.

Dean got his leave at the end of June so we took three weeks and spent it first in Utah, then a day in Wyoming, then up to Montana, then back to Wyoming, and back to Utah and then back home. The trip up to Montana wasn't planned. Dean's uncle died, so we drove up there to attend his funeral. It was lucky that we happened to be on leave at the time, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to go. This was the first time that I was able to meet a lot of Dean's extended family. Dean's Dad and his 12 siblings of varying degrees of native American-ness are quite the bunch. It was also the first time that I had ever been to a non-LDS funeral. I think I have to say that I prefer ours.

We are back at home now, but Dean still hasn't started back at work yet. So we have long days with not a lot to do. He should be starting work again next week, then I just have to figure out what to do by myself all day. I think it will be easier for me than it is for Dean. He gets cabin fever really badly, so most of each day is spent driving or walking around trying to decide what to do. I think I'm looking forward to some home time.
