Almost done, but not quite yet


Well... I don't really have any good pictures of me pregnant. If I pose for them, or even if I know the picture is being taken, I just look dorky and I just can't bring myself to post them. Not that these pictures are any better, but I feel better about them for some reason.

So I had another ultrasound today. They just wanted to see how big he is and see if he is growing enough in there. The idea I guess is that if he hadn't grown enough since my last ultrasound they were going to induce him early. Apparently he had a good growth spurt this month, as his percentile jumped from 16 at the end of September to 33 today. So they will not be inducing him. I am very happy that he is growing, and I am quite pleased that he is healthy, and doing well, but I can't help being slightly disappointed that he won't be making an early arrival. It would be nice to have it scheduled so he won't come at a surprise time, and it would be nice to have this whole pregnancy over with. All well.

So in the meantime I continue to wait. Natalie and Ammon keep me occupied a lot of the time, and when they're not poking me and jumping on me and pushing on my belly, then I have another baby doing the same thing from the inside. He is very active, and moves around constantly. I think he likes his space. He doesn't like being pushed on, and he really doesn't like contractions. Just in the past week or so I've started having contractions, and each time he fights back making them painful when they wouldn't otherwise be. After each contraction he likes to stretch out as much as he can which again is not very comfortable. I'm looking forward to having him on the outside of me.

He's due in 12 days, so really he can come any day now. As much as I would like to have this over with quickly, I'm actually hoping that he will hold out until Dean comes, which ought to be sometime between the 10th and the 15th of November. He was going to be later, but they changed the dates on him. And if baby can't wait that long, then he should at least wait for Mom to come next week.

It takes a village to raise a child

I'm reading a book for my class called "Boys Adrift" by Leonard Sax. I'm getting close to the end of the book, and as I've been reading I've been fearing for my sons a bit. This book is all about how more and more recently boys tend to lose motivation and are content to live with their parent's until they're 30, playing video games and doing little else. It talked about how the education system has been changing in recent years and how in many cases it tends to disengage boys from school. Lots of smart boys just stop caring about school and call it "stupid" and just stop trying while instead they put more and more effort into video games. Of course, these trends don't apply to all boys, but it seems to be happening more and more. Girls are starting to fall into this pattern too, but not nearly to the extent that boys are.
