I made a movie :)


For the last month and a half I've  been working on making this video. I was only able to finish it yesterday when I got the final piece of information to finish it off in an exciting way. I used to make movies when I was a teenager with the help of siblings and friends, and I really enjoyed that. I've been trying to think of ways that I can capture my old self, my old talents and hobbies and continue to do them now. I am still in essence the same person I used to be, and while I have changed a lot, I do still enjoy a lot of the same things I used to. I had forgotten about that though. I used to love making movies, and even took a video production class in eighth grade. At that point I was seriously considering going on and studying filmography, but that idea quickly faded, and while I still enjoyed making movies, I never did it as much as I would like to have. I loved making this one because it combined something that I loved doing in my youth, with my children who are basically my life now. It gave us an excuse to get out of the house and stay active during the summer, which was especially hard for me because I have still been pretty tired and lazy because of this pregnancy. I am so glad that I did this, it was so much fun to make. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do for my next project. I need to be working on something creative or something that I can really get excited about or else I feel like I just slip into the mom rut and lose April. What to do, what to do? Any suggestions?

It takes a village to raise a child

I'm reading a book for my class called "Boys Adrift" by Leonard Sax. I'm getting close to the end of the book, and as I've been reading I've been fearing for my sons a bit. This book is all about how more and more recently boys tend to lose motivation and are content to live with their parent's until they're 30, playing video games and doing little else. It talked about how the education system has been changing in recent years and how in many cases it tends to disengage boys from school. Lots of smart boys just stop caring about school and call it "stupid" and just stop trying while instead they put more and more effort into video games. Of course, these trends don't apply to all boys, but it seems to be happening more and more. Girls are starting to fall into this pattern too, but not nearly to the extent that boys are.
