Time to move AGAIN
I am so sick of moving. I figured it out the other day: in the last 6
years, I have lived been in 10 different wards; 7 in the last 4; plus a
few more if you count a month here and a month there. Hopefully this
one will be the last one for at least a year, maybe longer.
Dean is still looking for a job, but we've settled on living in Green River WY. There are a lot of mines, an airport, and several other potential job opportunities around there, and that's just where we feel we need to be right now. That's where Dean grew up. He worked at the McDonalds there when he was in highschool, and all the same people are still working there ten years later, and they said he can have his job back until he finds something better, so at least we'll have that.
The biggest problem with Green River Wyoming is that very little of it is online. All the jobs are paper applications, and the job listings are either in the news paper or just a help wanted sign in the window. There isn't a whole lot we can do from a distance. We were having quite a bit of trouble finding a place to live over there for the same reason. Most of this last week we spent down in Green River looking for a place to live. We finally did find a nice town house... much bigger than what I was expecting to get, especially without a real job, but the guy showing us the place took pity on us, and said that if we could sign a year lease he would drop the price for us. In a way it all seemed really unprofessional, but at the same time it was really friendly and way more personal than any of the other places we've ever rented. Now I'm just going to have to make sure I remember to pay the rent on time. I've always just had it on automatic payments online that I never have to think about. This one I'm actually going to have to write a check and mail it in.
I'm really excited about all of the really cool parks here. I've never seen so many fun and unique parks in one city before. Yeah, there are several that aren't very toddler friendly, but there are lots that are, and the ones that aren't are actually really fun for me to play on... if only I were 12. There is also the "green belt" running all around and through the city. It's a paved path for walkers, runners, strollers, and bikers that borders the river much of the way, and when it doesn't it's still really nice. I've been trying to ride my bike more lately, and I don't usually mind riding on the streets, but more often than not I've got both kids in a trailer behind me and it makes me really nervous having them on these busy roads, plus I can't go as fast when I'm pulling them, so I'm really looking forward to having a nice bike path that I can ride on. The biggest issue is going to be the mosquitoes. There are mosquitoes all over the city, but they're particularly bad right along the river. I hate bug spray, but I think if we're going to be living here for a long time I'm just going to have to get used to it.
Having moved so many times in the last few years, you'd think that I'd be used to it, but I'm not. Leaving this place in particular is going to be hard because this is the first place that I've lived where I've actually made several good friends in the short time I've been here. The school is also here. And even though I decided that I can't go to school at this point in my life, it was still nice being nearby. There is a community college there in Green River, but since I already have an associate's degree, it really won't do me much good. We're leaving in less than two weeks, and we haven't even started packing or cleaning yet. I'm really just wishing that I could do it all magically, or that I could just leave for a couple of weeks while someone else does it. *sigh* I guess I better get to work.
