A House!
A lot has been going on in the last few months. I keep meaning to
write about it, but then something else will happen and then I'll
decide that I should write about that too, and I want to wait until I
have more details... and time passes and then too much stuff has
happened for me to write about everything.
The biggest thing going on right now is that we're moving in a few weeks. We'll still be in Colorado Springs, but we're going to be renting a house. The apartment that we're in has so many things about it that we both can't stand, so Dean and I decided to look elsewhere to live. The big one on my mind right now is the dishwasher. They put in a brand new dishwasher just a few months ago, but it still doesn't clean. I completely rinse and scrub every single dish, wash them in the dishwasher, and then when I go to empty them they're dirtier than when I put them in. It's just so frustrating! And in the last week or so the dishwasher door has been getting caught on the counter so I guess it doesn't close completely, and it floods our kitchen floor. Dean's biggest complaint is the parking. We are assigned one parking space, but people keep parking in it, and it's almost impossible to get one of the visitor parking spaces nearby. We bought a second a car a couple of months ago, and Dean has been having to park clear on the other side of the complex and walking. In the cold snowy weather, that's not much fun. The heating is messed up, so no matter what we do, DJ's room is always at least a few degrees colder than the rest of the apartment, so we can't turn down the heat at night at all because he'll freeze. We've complained about this time and time again, but they never do anything about it. We have extremely loud and rude neighbors that are always blasting music or a movie or a videogame, and they completely ignore our requests that they turn down the volume. They've woken DJ up several times with all that noise. There are countless other problems with this apartment, but I'm sure I've already given way more detail than anyone wanted to hear.
Anyways, after looking for only a short while we discovered that renting a three bedroom apartment or townhouse costs about the same as renting a house. I guess we didn't really need three bedrooms, but with a second baby on the way, and with DJ still being so young we decided that if we could we would really really like more room, so we started looking at houses. We found one that is only about 5 minutes away from Heather's house. We were supposed to be able to move into it in mid-February, but apparently a pipe froze and burst, so they have to fix it, and they're estimating that we can move in the first week of March. As long as we can get moved in before Andrew is born, I'm okay with that.
This house has three bedrooms, plus a retreat in the master bedroom that can be used as a nursery for while Andrew is still little. (we've decided to call him Andrew by the way) We'll have a kitchen with about twice as much counter space as we currently have, and a walk in pantry rather than a few measly cupboards that we try and squeeze our food into. We might actually be able to build up some sort of food storage now, before there was simply no room for it. After a big grocery trip we would have food on our limited counter space for days until we had eaten enough to be able to fit it into the cupboards again. We will have room to put our kitchen table in the kitchen too, so that when DJ is throwing his food everywhere it doesn't get in the carpet! We'll have a basement with a nice big laundry room, and a backyard. The yard doesn't really have grass in it, but we are allowed to plant grass if we want to. We'll have a garage, for Dean to park in so he'll stop complaining about that. We're actually allowed to fix things that go wrong in the house instead of always having to wait for the apartment maintenance to get around to doing their substandard job of fixing it. We're going to have some extra space so we won't have to pay to keep our storage unit anymore. There are just so many benefits to having a house over an apartment.
Anyways, a lot more has been going on too, but I guess I'll talk about that in a post on another day. I love you all!
